Course Overview


The Application Developer program offers its students the opportunity to advance their coding skills by learning advanced concepts and gaining hands-on experience with HTML, CSS, Java, data structures, and algorithms - the skills many employers are searching for most in today’s job market.

We’ve paired our Programming Basics and Application Developer curriculums and designed this course to take students from a beginner-level coder to an entry/mid-level professional in 18-weeks.

WEEKS 1 - 6
Learn Java from scratch!

We will begin with developing a solid understanding of Core Java using computational thinking (Abstraction, Analysis and Automation) with Object Oriented Programming Foundations. This project-based program will help candidates reason and navigate through coding complexities using tools, including Eclipse IDE, to understand the language’s fundamentals, application and utility.  

WEEK 6: After establishing their foundational skills, students will be assessed on their Java skills to determine their eligibility to transition into the second part of the class. Students that pass this assessment will transition to weeks 7 - 18 to advance their coding skills for creating applications and programs.

WEEKS 7 - 18
Apply what you know!

Now we move on to the intermediate-level curriculum that covers methodologies to plan, analyze, design, implement and evaluate existing systems as well as creating new ones (SDLC). Explore how to be efficient in Agile-Scrum project methodologies using Jira, using one of the most influential software tools in the market.  Additionally, we will learn how to manage data using SQL by students by installing, configuring and connecting queries with related software.

You will enhance your fundamentals and excel at understanding program flow. Topics including multithreading, collections, basic I/O, Concurrency, JDBC, Java networking and Java 8 will be covered. Students will also be introduced to Spring MVC, SonarQube, and Maven among many more ensure they know how to wire, create, manage, test and inspect Java programs and projects to deliver quality applications.

Application Details

Minimum Eligibility Requirements

  • Must have at least a high school diploma, GED or equivalent

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship (presently or in the future)

Ideal Candidates

Ideal candidates will have an interest in jumpstarting their career in coding and proficient knowledge about computer basics (software and hardware). They are organized, agile individuals interested in business processes, client management, project management and working with a global team of business and technology professionals. To be successful, candidates need to possess basic literacy, math, critical thinking and self-teaching skills, do well in fast-paced environments and be able to learn new technologies quickly.

Applicants should have familiarity with the following technologies and software:

  • Spreadsheets (Excel, Sheets, Numbers)

  • Word processing (Word, Pages)

  • Mail and Agenda (Outlook, Gmail, Office 365)

  • Presentations (PPT, Keynote)

  • Web conferencing (WebEx/Hangouts/Skype/GoToMeeting)
